An exhibition

me at hengistbury

A few days ago I took down my first solo exhibition at the Hengistbury Head visitors centre.  I had approached them six months previously with much fear and trembling at the instigation of my husband. What did I have to lose? They might say no but they might say yes, why not just give it a try! In the end they said yes and so at the beginning of December we trekked up there with our car full of prints, frames, cards and different wooden stands. The room there is beautiful, full of natural light, faded brickwork and pale beams and the bright prints set off with plain white frames looked very pleasing. The next fear of course was would I actually sell any? Again the answer was yes with some of the local scenes actually running out of the limited edition prints. Every sale was a small cause of celebration.

The greatest joy though was the people I met on the journey.  Kirsty who sells my cards locally, Karen who framed them all for me, a total star, and Kath who gave me the permission to do it in the first place. I met some lovely members of the public too who came and chatted to me over the course of the month. They were so interested in the process, many of them remembering giving it a go in art classes back in their school days. Also Richard who kept me going with cups of tea and my friend Gill who travelled for miles in the torrential rain just to support me for an hour.

All in all it was a great experience, one I hope to repeat somewhere, somewhen. Many thanks to all those who encouraged me, you know who you are!

  1. What a great story of seeing your dreams come true Heather! Fantastic!!!
I love the picture beside you! So bright and cheerful! Looks serene and I’d love to live there. What was your inspiration for that one?
